China has invested billions of USD in different infrastructure projects since president Xi Jinping announced the One Belt – One Road initiative (OBOR) in 2013. One direct effect of OBOR initiative has been the development of the Rail network between China and Europe which heavily increased during 2017.
We at Scandinavian Shipping and Logistics use several different hubs in China, but recently we have started to use Xian to Kouvola service. Lead time from Xian to Kouvola is only 12-14 days which makes it the fastest service available at the moment.
Although in order to offer a flexible rail service we also cover rail hubs such as Zhengzhou, Suzhou, Ganzhou, Shenyang, Hefei, Wuhan, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing and Yiwu to Warsaw and Hamburg. We handle both FCL (Full Container Load) and LCL (Less Container Load) from all over China.
Rail transport have several advantages compared with the more traditional transport modes; air and sea. Rail freight is up to 50 % cheaper than air freight and the lead time from door China to door Sweden is only 25-28 days compared with 45-50 days by sea. The environmental aspect is something that we at Scandinavian Shipping cares about and we try to convince as many of our customers as possible to decrease their air freight cargo due to heavy pollution.
Often we talk to customers that from time to time face difficulties in their production in China and therefore they say that they are forced to use air transport in order to meet the customer’s deadline in Europe. Now that´s not true anymore since rail transport is a perfect alternative when the supplier delays the shipment for 7-14 days and therefore miss the deadline for sea transport. In this way we have saved a lot of money for our customers, but especially we have saved the planet from less emissions in the atmosphere.
